10 Days, 4 Countries, 34 Trains: Europe 2025 for MEDICA & Formnext
(
2025
)
I’ve just wrapped up ten days trip across Europe (Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy) to attend two of the most renowned healthcare and manufacturing industry events: MEDICA in Düsseldorf and Formnext in Frankfurt. Sharing some of my reflections from the journey…
MEDICA & Formnext:
Too big. Too vast. Too much … and somehow never enough

MEDICA, for starters, is huge.
“wow, these booths have booths inside them” kind of way.
You do a meeting in one hall, and the next one feels like is in another zip code.
Formnext, in contrast, has a more focused energy.
It’s packed with next-gen 3D technologies like printers, scanners, materials, processes, concepts, prototypes, and bold visions of the future.
Walking, Talking, Learning … and A Lot of Trains
After wrapping up both events, I hopped across Europe by train. According to my EU Rail Planner App,

2,220 km travelled
34 trains taken
27 hours on the move
4 countries, 23 cities/towns visited
That was magical.
Every journey felt like watching Europe flip its geography pages: forests, rivers, old towns, snow-lined bridges, industrial outskirts, all sliding by in real time.
And yes… by the end, even my step counter joined the adventure:
14,369 steps per day on average.
People: The Real Highlight
Events like these are marketed as showcases of machines, technology, innovation, and markets.
But honestly? They’re about people.

I met vendors who could become partners.
Startups that might turn into collaborators.
Old friends I didn’t expect to meet.
New connections that already feel like they’ll last.
Closing Thoughts

Ten days.
Four countries.
Dozens of trains.
Two mega-sized expos.
And a notebook full of memories.
Would I do it again?
Of course.
Because it’s the motion, the energy, the surprises, the people, the whole beautiful chaos that make trips like this unforgettable.
